Engineering Applications - The Morning
The morning session of your Engineering careers day focuses on what you need to do to secure a place at university and the different careers it can open up for you. We start off by examining where an Engineering degree can take you.
Engineering degrees typically award a BEng (Bachelor of Engineering) and usually take three years to complete, with an optional fourth year to earn an MEng (Master of Engineering). Some degrees are more specialised such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
We’ll discuss the various career options with you, mapping out routes into each one before we move onto how to secure a place at university to study Engineering at University.
To pursue an engineering degree, universities typically prefer candidates with A-Levels in mathematics, physics, and/or other sciences. Entry requirements vary by institution, with some universities requiring high grades (e.g., straight As) and others being more flexible.
To be accepted into an engineering course, you'll need to meet specific academic criteria. This generally includes strong performance in relevant subjects at the A-Level or equivalent qualifications.
Engineering Work Experience - The Afternoon
After lunch your afternoon session is dedicated to gaining some Engineering work experience.
As we mentioned, engineering is a broad term and covers many different disciplines but we’ll cover all of the main ones and for our work experience we’ll focus on Structural Engineering. You and your fellow students on the course will have to use all your creativity and engineering prowess to design a world record breaking roller coaster. Your task will have you tackling engineering calculations, decision making and cost trade offs, risk analysis and construction methodology.
We finish up the day with a Q&A session where its your chance to ask anything you may want to know about applying to Engineering degrees, career choices or life as a Engineer.
This is a great opportunity to meet with professionals to give you a real understanding of Engineering as a university and career choice through expert advice and guidance.
You’ll receive a certificate of course completion and have a detailed understanding of the various career options open to you and what an Engineering course entails, as well as some very useful Engineering work experience too.
